This is Rose. I, (Richard W. Hungerford Jr.), believe she lived next door down the hill a bit from us. She was our maid who became a family friend. Her sons were some of my playmates. She probably saved Diane and me when we tried to surprise my mom and dad with some birthday toys from Diane's recent birthday in early August. She had gotten a toy--a let's pretend we wash plates apron with pockets for sponges etc. I grabbed two step stools and she and I plugged the sink, got the water going, and proceeded to wash dishes. We soon realized we didn't know how to turn off the water and we also couldn't figure out how to unplug the darn thing. We started using pots and pans to sloppily scoop up water and put it on the table. On the table was an old frayed wire toaster that could have electrocuted us. Rose came over that morning and alerted our parents before that could happen. Whew.
